Christmas and a New Year!

We (Mr. Reed, Little R, myself and my parents) ventured up to the state of Pennsylvania. We were looking for some snow, and a cabin with a fireplace. We got each of those things just in a different kind of way. The snow was man-made while we experienced tubing for the first time. And the cabin was a time share "tree house" with a fireplace only for burning fake logs. The vacation turned out to be a lot of fun, good amount of relaxing, some game playing and movie watching.

New Years was celebrated in our dreams! We started off the new year with organizing and re-arranging our apartment. Now that we have a mobile little girl we had to move things up high. I have a few goals for the year and have decided that I will make them short term goals to be sure to stay on top of them! Let's see if it really works! Pictures to come soon... :) Happy New Year!!

Due to Scott's employment we have been relocated North to VA. I am not sure if I have the worst timing possible but the week after Eric passed away we were scheduled to move. My parents helped out so much, as well as lots of other very dear friends. We could not have done it with out their help!!

So we have been here for about 2 weeks and are still getting use to the area.

Here is what I have learned about our new stomping grounds:

We live on a peninsula.
It rains almost daily and when it is not raining it looks like it is going to rain.
You must allow yourself 15 mins. just to go about 5 miles.
Having Target as your front yard is helpful when you need something last minute.
Our neighbors are very friendly.
A super small washing machine could have been the best idea ever for someone like me that hates to fold clothes. You can only put in a small amount so you have to only fold a small amount at one time. So far clothes are getting put away when they come out. AMAZING! I know.
Stairs and an infant are no fun (good workout though).
Having friends and family so close by back home is missed more than I ever thought possible!

As I was scanning pictures on my computer I came across this photo. To some this picture may not mean much, but when I see this photo my heart is full.

In the back ground of this photo is the temple in Washington DC, which we were sealed as a family. The sealing that took place gives us the opportunity to be a family forever.

A week ago my brother passed away unexpectedly. Now the sealing power of the priesthood means so much more. The opportunity to be a forever family is a wonderful gift that I could not be more grateful for.

I have had to lean on the knowledge of the gospel, the comforter (Holy Ghost), and the love of our Father in Heaven a lot these past couple of days. I miss my brother, more than words can describe. Though, I smile knowing that he lived a great life, was loved by many and has now gone on to serve the Lord again.

Our little girl is growing up so fast.

A little about the munchkin:

took her first road trip to Virginia and stayed in a hotel

In one week Mr. Reed will be graduating. During the duration of our time here I constantly thought "seriously how much longer", now that the time has arrived I am thinking "where did the time go?".

Over the past 3 1/2 years we have:

~lived with my parents for 2 years
~planted a garden each year
~ held 7 callings between the two of us at church
~ sold two cars
~ sold two motorcycles
~ bought a car
~ bought two motorcycles
~ and most importantly had a sweet baby girl :)

The decision to move here was made in about 10 minutes (and that is not exaggerating) but it has been the best 10 minute decision we could have made.

We have had so many wonderful opportunities with school, jobs and family support.

Now on to our next adventure! I will post more on Graduation next week!!

After a well check up with the pediatrician here are her 3 week stats.

Sun Bathing

Over the past couple of days Rossi has been sun bathing to help out with the jaundice. We were worried about the sun being to bright in her eyes, so as always Mr. Reed came to the rescue. She is chillin!

The New Addition

Monday morning around 12:00 am I began to have small contractions.
I was so ready for her to be here that I did not think anything of them.
If I got to excited I knew it would have been braxton hicks and leave shortly.
1:30-2:00 I was waken by more contractions, this time they seemed a little bit different.
And they lasted until about 8:00 am. They were manageable and I could rest in between them.
Once 8 am came around the contractions again changed, more pain and less rest :).
These lasted until 1:00pm. Scott was great and helped me to cope during them.
After receiving some very wise advice we called the midwife. She said to come in the office.
I was a first time mom and said I was in labor, they thought I would need to go back home after being checked. The whole drive over I was very nervous that I was only a few centimeters dilated. We arrived, got checked and to my surprise I was 9 centimeters and almost fully effaced.
We were sent to the hospital right across the street, they broke my water and I labored for a few more hours. The midwife on call decided I needed pitocin to help me dilate completely. She called the nurse to give me an IV and then she left for the next midwife to start her rotation.
The nurse came in to start the IV but was called out to the nurse station. She was gone for about 45 mins and the new midwife came in. I asked her to check me and I was at a 10 and fully effaced. I was so happy no medicine!! So then it was time to push and after one hour we had a beautiful baby girl. I was very grateful to have the birth plan that I wanted and could not have done any of it with out Mr. Reed!!

Surprise!

On Friday afternoon I came back to the classroom from making some copies, when I opened the door I was greeted with a big surprise. The first and second grade classes that I work with had gotten together and had a surprise shower for me.

I have had some great showers. And lots of people have put lots of work into getting everything for those showers ready. But to walk in and see all my kids with food and gifts it was very sweet. Not only that they kept a secret.

They are so excited to meet the baby and just loved sitting and watching me open gifts. I will sure miss them while I'm away with the baby!!

So to all my kiddos... Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You guys are great!

In other news..

I convinced my mom into helping me with a sewing project. As most of you know this means me telling her what I would like and then watching as she goes to work. Those genetic genes did not pass my way :( ! But I think the canopy tent for the car seat turned out well. Thanks Mom!

Wait for it!

During my 8th month of pregnancy I filled out papers for my maternity leave. I was so sure that I would probably go later than my due date, being a first time mom and all. I set the date to be the week after my due date and if there was still no baby I would continue to work. I really want to stay home as long as possible with her before I have to return back to work. Everyone would say you don't have long until your due date and I would reply I want to go later than my due date. This kind of shocked people because most times people would like to go on time if not early.

I am eating my words right about now. Every since I hit the count down of around 15 days left, I felt this overwhelming desire to have her here. I am not uncomfortable, so I could really do this longer, but my anxiousness of meeting her, holding her and seeing how she will look is tearing me down. All in due time!!

I am very grateful I have a job that keeps me busy!!

I decided today I was going to have a shirt made for the last month of pregnancy.

T-shirt would read:

FYI:
No, I have not dropped.
It's a girl even though I carry her like a boy.
And I still have one whole month to go.

The reason for this shirt is over the past couple of weeks I have gotten each of these responses.
1. Man you look like you have dropped.
2. So when is your little boy due and/or It's a little boy, right?
3. So you must be due at anytime now or you look like you are about to go in labor.

I guess it's all part of the big belly and nice waddle I have :)

Baby Shower

A friend of mine along with my aunt, threw me a baby shower for my family and some friends. Though the weather was awful outside the shower was lovely.

We had some very tasty treats, beautiful decor, and lots of fun games.

I can't believe the time is getting so close!! Today I am 35 weeks, so only 5 more weeks until my due date. :)

Christmas Vacation

This post is long over due so without further ado, here is our Christmas 2010 vacation:

We traveled to Mississippi to be with the Reed family for Christmas. We enjoyed the time spent relaxing, eating, visiting with family and feeling the spirit of Christmas.

We had spoken with my family back in NC and heard of all the lovely snow they were suppose to be getting. But luckily on Christmas morning we enjoyed a little snow of our own. It was not as much but always nice to have a "white" Christmas!

On our way home we stopped in Greenville, SC to do a little site seeing. The downtown area was really nice with lots of scenic paths and the falls.

I know I promised a lot more posts with the new year, and I actually have been posting a lot just not here. I started a blog for my brother, Eric, about his updates and health situation.

So hopefully this will be the first of many this year. We are still anxiously awaiting the arrival of our little girl and have realized that the time is coming soon. :)

I am sorry to say but I have been slack.
Last post was almost two months ago.
Lots of things have been going on.
We have had some deaths in the family.
We have celebrated some Holidays.

With that said, I promise to do better.

Tomorrow I will have made it to the 26th week of pregnancy.
Today I saw I was out of the double digits.

The reason behind this, was so that I could have a craft room, and not a hundred different craft boxes around the house. So long sweet summer....

SUMMER,

You came just in the nick of time.
I was ready to have the two months off.
I wanted to vacation, swim and enjoy the sun.

Now I have participated in all of these things.
You must leave.
And with you must go....
THE HEAT!
Please take it with you. You leave in a couple of days.
Autumn will take your place.
Leaves will change.
Pumpkins will start to appear.
And I will hopefully not sweat from taking two steps outside.

Don't get me wrong. I will miss lots of things about you.

Well just to set the record straight it's not! I understand that my yard/house will not be featured in either the Parade of Homes or Better Homes and Gardens. But I would appreciate a little help in keeping it look as neat as possible. Today I picked up a McDonald's bag, several used napkins, slim-jim wrapper, very chewed on straw, and a can. Needless to say just yesterday I mowed my front lawn and none of this was there. So please in all decency stop littering my yard.

Part 3: Memorial Weekend Camping

This story does come to an end... I promise!

I love, love, love the Blue Ridge Parkway.

And now I love it even more because we were able to find a campground that had open sites.
And not just for one night, but for the next two nights of our trip.

Though there were no showers.
We again had to travel
7 miles and $3 per person
But to our surprise we were invited to a Potluck.

That's right we ate for free and it was actually tasty.

So the $6 shower cost was well spent. :)

Now back to the tent to get some shut eye. Oh and we picked up a few throws to keep us warm.
Well we thought they would keep us warm.
Again in the middle of the night we were really cold. I remembered in my sleepy state of mind that we have an emergency blanket in our camping gear.

Now for most of you that may or may not know what this emergency blanket is like to sleep with.
Just take several sheets of aluminum foil tonight and use them as a blanket.

Yes, you will be warm but you will also wake up the family in the house next to you!!

Sunday was another beautiful day and led us to a strenuous hike.

I think they had a misprint and meant to write hardest hike you will probably ever do!!

It was 2.8 miles one way and basically all down hill and then coming back all up hill. We got a good work out!!

We were able to view some sights around the area and intended to go tubing down the river, but the stormy weather had a different plan. We did enjoy the rest of the weekend with relaxing at our camp site and viewing the mountains.

Next time I will chose to be spontaneous on a less busy weekend!!

Part 2: Memorial Weekend Camping

Needless to say our good nights rest turned into a night of trying our hardest to stay warm. But we made through and woke up to a beautiful sunny day.

Facts about this campground:

no showers
nothing to do in the area

Mr. Reed and I decided that we would look for another campground more north with showers and a few more attractions. The sweet little lady informed us that she had a spot open for the next two nights if we wanted them, we would just have to move our things from one site to another. We said we would come back after looking around the area and let her know.

After a couple of hours of calling other parks we found ourselves checking out a tepee to stay the night in. This place had showers and tubing down the river.

We called around 11:30 am and said we were heading over to check it out. According to the brochure we were 15 mins away. It also told us to take exit 28. Well 45 mins. later and no exit 28 we again found ourselves lost and pulling into the BP to get directions.

Saturday we figured was National Yard/Garage Sale. I am sure we passed at-least 10 different yard sales. We did finally stop at one that was near a gas station and lets just say it was items saved from the 1980's era.

We found the camp ground and checked out the tepee. It was quit small and extremely hot. They don't breath well. The owner came over and asked what he could do for us and explained that from the time we called until now the tepee had been taken. Although, the showers could be used for a low price of $5.00 a person. A river bath was sounding really good about that time.

1:00 pm
Head back to our campsite and let the sweet little lady know that we will take site 4 for the rest of the weekend. She kindly explains that while we were out someone came and took that spot for the rest of the weekend. WHAT!?!?!

Oh no! Our spontaneous trip has now become not so fun. We are doing nothing but driving around and now have NO place to sleep.

Check out time is 3:00pm so we had some time to get our things together, or so we thought.
The new campers of site 3 were already standing with their gear waiting for us to get our things cleared up and out.

Cleared out of site 3 in about 30 mins and headed south down the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Part 1: Memorial Weekend Camping

About a month ago I mentioned a camping trip.
We would go over Memorial Day weekend.
And we would be spontaneous. No planning.

Friday:
1:00 pm
Everyone home from work.

2:00 pm
Running around trying to find all of our camping equipment.

3:00 pm
Finally on the road to a camp ground we picked on line. (no reservations)

6:00 pm
Somewhere between home and the Virgina state line
I thought I might give the camp ground a call.

6:05 pm
No Vacancy
No worries, call other campgrounds, and keep driving towards Virgina.

7:15 pm
Finally found a campground with vacancy
Park Ranger (sweet little lady) said we could get to her in 30 mins.

7:50 pm
Sweet little lady's directions were a bit off and we have now called her twice

8:00 pm
Finally pulled into the camp grounds
Found a nice spot right on the river and unload all of our gear.

I am not sure why, but we love to put up our tent, cook dinner, and then eat all in the dark.

We finally had our delicious steaks at 12:00 am in the morning.

So, now down for a good night's rest with full bellies we found ourselves a bit on the chilly side. In our rush to leave we forgot the sleeping bags. So we snuggled up and piled our clothes on top of us.

Sad, I know. Grass is my nemesis.
After two years of having a garden in the same spot
One would think that the area would look some what like a garden.
You know the look, dirt, no grass, an outline of the previous garden.
Nope. Not Mine. or Mines. (as spoken in the schools)

Today we woke up to find that the weather man was right. We received about 2 inches of snow. Our sign on our back door seemed to work! I was able to go out and take just a few pictures. They are not that great since it was raining at the time. So we now have snow covered with ice. But the weekend has been nice and relaxing!

It all started on 1/23/08.
I began to type about our life.
Added some pictures to my not so interesting stories.
And enjoyed reading others blogs.
Here we are 1/11/10.
100 posts later.
It took me long enough.
Thanks to my 2.5 reader fan club.

Mr. Reed and I started the new year off with selling our car!! :)
So if you have an extra vehicle in your yard and no longer want it, we will be glad to take it off of your hands.

This year we bought and decorated our first tree.
Other years have been spent with family.
So we enjoyed their tree.
We found a small tree.
I think it stood about 5 foot 3.
With a little help from two cement blocks.
It stands the perfect height.
A topper we don't have.
So shopping we went.
$15.99 you can forget about that.
So Mr. Reed again fixed everything right.

Sorry I am now just posting Holidays, but things get busy around this time of year. This year, Thanksgiving was spent with the Reed side of the family. So that means traveling, great food, good fun, and lots of cute kiddos. We really had a nice, but way too short, thanksgiving. We ate way too much food but that's what you're suppose to do right?!? On one of the days we traveled to Caledonia (God's Country) to enjoy some good BBQ and dirt-biking. So here are some pictures of the action.

This past weekend our church, held its semi-annual General Conference. The leaders of our church speak to all of the members to uplift, and edify us spiritually. We spend both Saturday and Sunday engaged in talks and music by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I truly enjoy these conferences because they are a lift in a much needed time.
One of the talks given was by our prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. He spoke on service and related a hymn sung in our meetings titled " Have I Done Any Good?". He mentioned that if we take the time and effort to care for others and their needs, our burdens and suffering will be lifted. I have felt all too often sorry for myself and held a pity party when I could have been out lifting someone else's burden as well as my own. As the talk was being given I thought of the greatest sacrifice that has ever been performed. Our Savior, through much pain and suffering died on the cross for each of us to return to live with our Father in Heaven. Without complaint or hard feelings towards those who betrayed him, he withstood the agony and served us all with love.

Yes, it has been a while.
I've been busy.
I know I don't have a job

So now that I have moment I will share some photos/stories.

About a week ago my dad comes home from work and finds a lady pulled up in our driveway. She steps out and hands him a kitten. "I thought this might be your kitten, he was about to get run over so I brought him up here." Well my dad took the kitten (which by the way was not ours) his eyes were matted and he looked very malnourished. So we cleaned him up and fed him and now he is ours. We have not decided on a name but here are some photos.

Last week I had the privilege of traveling to the beach for a couple of days. While walking on the pier, with camera in hand, I spotted two pelicans that were perched on a bench. I took some shots and then heard one of the fisherman say, "you want a good shot"? Heck yes!! So to my surprise he pulled out a fish and asked if I was ready. He threw the fish in the air and the pelicans went for it. I thanked him for his kindness and was smiling from ear to ear with the picture I was able to capture.

He swallowed it whole!

On this day we honor mothers.

Those who have birthed us and women who have helped us to this point in life.

As I look back over the years of my life, I realize that not only has my mother played a huge part in my life, but so have many other women in the world.

Don't get me wrong these women could never take the place of my mom, but today I am not only grateful for her support, wisdom, and love. But for the countless others who have stepped in to help along the way.

There are too many to speak of by name but I do hope they know as well as my mom, how much I appreciate all that has been sacrificed, time spent, love given, words of encouragement, a laugh, a hug, a visit or even just a smile.

Today I say thank-you. And hope that as I continue in life that I will help to raise those whom I come in contact and in due time children of my own. To give back what has been given to me over and over again.

It has been anticipated.

The excitement clearly there.

Training, sweat, and hard work.

They paraded in, proud to have a standing ovation.

All we needed was the torch to be lit and these words:
"Let the games begin!"

They scattered, taking all that energy and excitement
that they have been building up for months.

They competed, won, and cheered their peers on.

They received medals and were all smiles no matter the color.

I looked on with camera in hand and admired a fine group of
boys, girls, men, and women.

Each day I see them strive to be and do their very best.

Today I witnessed happiness.

Happiness just for being cheered on, to stand on the boxes
and receive a medal.

Today I realized they are in turn teaching me the values of life.

Outing.. and the longest post ever.

This week I'm out on Spring Break, a big plus with working in the school system. Today I planned an outing: Head to Raleigh, visit with Audrey, attend the temple, do a little shopping and hang out. Our temple appointment was 10:45. To be a good on time person you need to be there by 10:15. I could do that leave around 8:40 and have plenty of time. To bad at 8:40 this morning I was getting out of the shower and running around trying to get breakfast and clothes in 2.5 seconds. Kissed Mr. Reed goodbye for a couple of days (school trip to Alabama) and then I was off. 9:05 the clock reads as I race out of the house.

I am about 15 mins into my trip and I realize I need to call Audrey (heads up of being late) and Mr. Reed ( don't forget: and a list of items to follow). Audrey says "Drive fast, but safe." Mr. Reed says "Be safe and don't fly." I hang up and remember I still have milk and cereal in a cup to eat.

On the freeway, toss phone in my cup holder where I always place it. Oh NO! Remember I have milk and cereal in a cup waiting to be eaten. That's right my friends, now I have milk with cereal in a cup with a hint of a cell phone.

One hand on stirring wheel, other hand fishing out milky phone, spilling milk all over me and the car, trying to look for a napkin while keeping on eye on the road ( thank goodness for multiple lanes, and minimal amount of traffic). Found a napkin on the floor, opened and found that someone left it in the car after eating a crumbly pop- tart. So now I have soggy crumbs, milk, and a wet cell phone.

How I made it all the way to Raleigh, finished my slightly damaged breakfast, and air dried a cell phone I will never know. But I am very grateful that I made it safe and realized sometimes pulling over would be wise. I was just afraid of missing my temple appointment.

Though even after all my air-drying my speaker for my phone failed. I was able to call others but they were not able to hear me. This was frustrating to no end. So I knew I would have to make a stop at the local wireless store.

I wanted to tell them my speaker was not working, I did not want to have to mention that I submerged it in milk earlier. But as I was drying it out, I removed the battery and found this little "tattle tail". I would never have lied it he asked me what had happened but who wants to walk in and acknowledge to everyone that, you a grown woman, put your cell phone in your breakfast. So I decided that I would just ask what I could do since my phone got wet. Water, milk it's all wet. Well of course, I have no insurance, my warranty is up, and I would have to buy a new phone. No way, I got this one free I was not going to spend money on another one. So I asked what could be done, he said "give it time and put it in a bag of rice to absorb the moisture". Of course before I said my goodbyes he asked what happened I confessed, and he laughed.

So now until the moisture (hopefully) leaves my speaker I will use this. An ear headset: Yes, I have mocked these, I dislike them cause I always thought others were talking to me while they were actually on their phones, and yet I now must sport one. Temporarily I hope.

My trip was very pleasant other than my milky cell phone. Thanks Audrey!!

Sorry it has been awhile since we've posted. During the last part of winter we suffered from the flu and man it kicked our tushes.

This put us a little behind on our spring garden but I think even with a delayed start things will work out. We have prayed that the rain would come and boy did it come.

This is not good news to my parents who have almost all the framing done on their new home. It seems to be coming along pretty well.

Near the end of the day while getting the kids in our class off to the bus I plan out my evening. Depending on the day I could either have the whole evening to do as I please, or I could have to report to piano, meetings, etc. Wednesdays are kind of busy I have about an hour to fix dinner, practice a little on the piano and head out the door to make it to class on time. I guess today I was a little to busy....

While out for our anniversary (which my husband surprised me and came home early from school) we decided to pick up a dessert (an exotic fruit). It had to be something that neither of us had ever tasted, so we stopped at the Fresh Market (side note: why does everything look so tasty in that store??) and found this:

Mr. Reed and I have hit our two year mark.
To put in all in a nutshell these two years have been pretty awesome.
Mr. Reed has been extremely busy with school.
Our time together is normally in passing.
Neither of us has mentioned our anniversary.
He's not going to remember that it's Monday.
Friday night the subject came up.
I teased about him not remembering.
He knows the date, but days for him are all jumbled together.
This morning he stopped me and kissed me.
Next were these words: " Happy Anniversary"
My expression gave it away:
Guess who completely lost track and had already forgotten!

Thanks to my mother and father in law for sending us a card and not forgetting and also theknot.com, were I did most of my planning on-line. They sent me an email saying Wow! It's been two years since we've planned your dream wedding along with a free subscription to the Bump (baby) magazine they publish. Thanks for the hint but it will be a few more years!!

Lines begin to form and then when everyone arrives from lunch/dinner at the same time you better call it before arriving in the drive way. Anyway, a little about this photo. This was taken during our reception on March 3rd, 2007 the day after we were married. We were on stage right before this thanking everyone for coming and for supporting us. Then my brother in-law played "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice. Well I knew that my husband knew all of the words so I dedicated the song to him, handed him the mic, and walked off stage. From the expression on my face he was doing what he does best putting on a great show and making everyone laugh.

Chicken Coop Poop

Since we enjoy eating spoon fulls of peanut butter, crackers with peanut butter, etc. etc. I thought I would check out the recall list just to see if I needed to get rid of any of our items.
Luckily we either don't buy the product names or shop at those stores listed. But I did find some interesting items one of which was Chicken Coop Poop.

I google imaged my new found recalled product:

To save those of you who enjoy this recalled item, save your money and go to the nearest chicken farm. There you will find an abundance of your coop poop.

Although after further investigation I found that our Chicken Coop Poop is nothing but a mere code name for these.

My snow day with Mr. Reed was incredible! I am so glad that we could "pretend" to be kids again!

Then there was the next day when things became sheets of ice and the fun fluffy snow was hard and not so enjoyable so I cleaned, made a card or two, and took a warm cozy nap.

I thought for sure that Mr. Winters (our snowman) would disappear kind of like this.... "In the sun he melted, melted. In the sun he melted small, small, small." That's how it normally happens. Right? Well for Mr. Winters it was a different tune. These dogs decided he was pretty tasty.

Dear Family and Friends,

It is hard to believe that it's time again for Christmas cards. 2008 has been a fast and busy year for our family. Scott and I started off the year by renting a U-haul and traveling with all of our belongings (which reminded us that too much belongs to us) from Raleigh to Snow Hill, NC where we will reside a couple of more years as we await the arrival of an ECU diploma. As in times past, where our wheels took us far and wide over the eastern parts of the country, we chose again to follow tradition. In below freezing weather we conquered the mountains of NC, traveled north to Jersey to pick up a motorcycle, only to return to our own beds that same night, then onward and westward to Franklin NC for a bit of summer vacation. Before the year ends we will again find ourselves on the road for Christmas in Mississippi.

While our tires were not turning we could be found weeding our first garden. We quickly found out that we were in for a big job, but we enjoyed reaping what we sowed. As for other hours of the day we could be found anxiously engaged with school and work. Scott has now finished a complete year of school. He worked tirelessly and the results have been positive. In the few hours between studying, he has enjoyed being a part of the ECU Baja team, and working on his motorcycle. Kimberly started off the year as a teller (bank, not fortune) and continued to search for a job in the school system. As the days went by the opportunities seemed slim, but to her surprise the beginning of November brought a new job with the local high school, as a teacher assistant in Special Ed. When she is not on the clock she enjoys viewing life through a camera lens or making hand crafted cards.

All in all our year has been full of many blessing and good health. We have enjoyed spending time with family and celebrating the adventures that come our way.

As we end this year that has brought so many economic challenges, we pray that we all may find time to remember the important things like spending a little longer with family and friends and remembering our Savior and his birth this Christmas Season.

We wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and hopeful New Year!

I have found a new hobby... for my brain.

CROSSWORD PUZZLES.

I have admired for many, many years my grandma's knack for crosswords. A visit to her home would find her working away at a new page. I would glance over her shoulder and read the list. I realized I fell into the "not so smart" category. Wondering many times how she got that answer?!?! So after 20 + years of watching, admiring, and studying her moves, I wanted my brain to have this hobby.

I stopped by one night and asked a few questions:

1) How did you get so smart? (I needed to know what I should do to prepare myself for the new hobby)

2) How long did it take you to get this good? (this answer lets me know my brain will be having this hobby for quite sometime.)

3) Can you teach me what you know? (she agreed)

I learned a few tricks, and practiced a few times with her assistance.

Each visit brought me back to the table working hard to figure out the answers.

Then one day after work I received a gift.
This gift was perfect "ALL EASY CROSSWORDS".
A book all to myself.
From my teacher.
I have worked through a couple of pages, I will admit I still need help, but I shall persevere!!

Our annual Stake Conference (for our church) led us to Newbern, NC. We were able to enjoy a picnic on the water front following the conference. I took this opportunity to snap a few shots.

The conference was very uplifting and we were able to hear from several great speakers. Even though times are tough and the world is changing with every tick of the clock... everything will be alright!!

1) Often I pass by this garden of sunflowers and have wanted to take some photos. Today, with the help of my grandma and a phone call it was made possible.

2) For the first 15 years of my life I grew up across the road from a corn mill. For the majority of my life it was a working business. Some years ago they stopped and the huge gray silos stayed around. Since Mr. Reed and I have moved back into town they have begun tearing these large metal buildings down. While walking home today I thought I would snap a few shots for memories.

Couldn't tell you much about it.

I get well informed at work.

They speak of TV shows.

They ask, "Did you watch a certain show last night?"

Nope.. I reply..

But I do watch.

This one show.

Their reply.

Never heard of it.

I never can discuss the previous shows.

Or my hopes for the next episode.

Still I watch it.

While it is not showing..

I watch season after season. Over and Over.

Well, at last the wait is over. No more reruns.

It's time for the real deal.

Tonight 9pm NBC "The Office".

If you have never watched it.

Tune in.

Then go out and rent the last 4 seasons.

I proved it..

As mentioned in my last post, yesterday was my hubby's birthday.
He wanted to forget about his birthday and I was all about celebrating it.
Maybe I should have taken his advice.
The birthday bash didn't turn out to what I had planned all day long in my mind.

I planned taco's for dinner (which he requested) and an apple pie.

So, there was lots to prepare to make sure we could eat at a decent time.

I started with the pie crust.
Thinking we could have this cooking while we ate.
Well 2 hours later I was still on the PIE CRUST!!
What?!?!
This was not in my plan!
I was so frustrated.
I wanted it to be perfect.
During all of this I realized that I need to cook the meat and chop some items of food.
Well I had to call in back up and needless to say my husband had to cook his birthday dinner.
So the pie is just not cooperating.
I needed more back up..
This time it was from over the phone from my mother-in-law.

My ever so patient mil, explained some things to try and then before we hung up said "take a deep breath and the crust will work out." (Good thinking, cause I pretty much think I was holding my breath.)

So my plan of eating at a decent time did not happen.

But thanks to my optimistic husband we still had taco's and apple pie.
Which turned out to look like a 2 year old prepared it all by themselves, but was edible.

On days like these where everything seems to fall apart I am grateful for my bed to end the day and for new days to start over.

A little about my husband...

who thinks that:

You're never to old to be a kid.

Soccer should be the only sport.

Motorcycles the only transportation.

Rules are made to be broken.

Risks should be taken everyday.

A little sacrifice is good every now and then.

And that we should skip his 27th birthday this year.

Sorry.

I could not help myself.

A few weeks ago my cousin-in-law, posted a silent action for a family that had recently been in a small airplane accident.

As I clicked on the link that led me to the story of this family, I was virtually introduced to The Nielson's, as well as their extended families blog.

As I have read both blogs I have been so inspired to laugh a little more, love a little harder and be grateful for all that my Heavenly Father has given me.

Only Stephanie, her husband (Christian) and a pilot were on the plane.

Stephanie's family is taking care of the children, while Stephanie and Christian's bodies heal from the burns from the crash in the Arizona Burn Center.

If you get a chance, click on the blogs and read a little bit about a family that is going through a huge trial in their life, but still has so much to give to the blogger community as well as the world.

The Nielson's story was actually posted in the New York Times.

I love the weekends. I love waking up with out the loud beeping of my alarm clock. No reporting to a job, just doing my own thing.

Well this weekend I must share my time off with a little wind, and some rain. A little friend named Hanna. I must admit something. I like hurricanes. I know it sounds so wrong and mean of me. Let me explain.

First let me say, I never ever want harm to come upon anyone. I don't like for people to be forced out of their homes, or to have to go back to nothing at all.

I love the smell the storms bring, the leaves and limbs on the ground, the calm after the storm. I like the anticipation, and the preparation. I like tracking them and watching their chosen paths.

Of course, only in my perfect little world do these storms not bring pain, heartache, loss, and tragedy.
